What better during summer, than a traditional, refreshing treat? Cypriot Mahalepi is the ultimate option! We went to Lidl Cyprus, got some summery products and prepared it for you. Enjoy the recipe: quick, easy and refreshing!

Makes about 10 servings of Mahalepi


  • 5 cups of water
  • 1 cup of cornstarch (or nisiaste flour which is a maize powdered starch)
  • 1-2 heaped tbs sugar
  • rose cordial & water to taste when serving



  • pour 1 litre (5 cups) of water within a pot
  • pour 1 cup of cornstarch (the traditional“nisiaste”) within the pot
  • add 1-2 heaped tbs sugar
  • wait for the mahalepi to boil
  • add in a tray “waxed” with some water
  • add some cold water with ice cubes
  • add some rose cordial (the traditional “triantafillo”)
  • add some ice-cream balls
