According to a new announcement, Cypriot citizens no longer need a pre-arranged visa to visit Qatar can now obtain a visa waiver upon arrival in Quatar. All visitors will need is a passport, valid for at least six months, and a return ticket.
Cyprus is one of the 33 countries whose citizens’ visa waiver will be valid for 180 days from the date of issue. Visa waiver holders will be allowed to spend up to 90 days in Qatar, during either a single trip or on multiple trips. Meanwhile a second group of 47 countries, including the UK, will be able to obtain a visa waiver which will be valid for 30 days from the date of issue and its holder will be allowed to spend up to 30 days in Qatar, during either a single trip or on multiple trips, and may extended their waiver for a further 30 days.
“The visa exemption scheme will make Qatar the most open country in the region,” Hassan al-Ibrahim, Chief Tourism Development officer at Qatar Tourism Authority noted.
The move is deemed as an effort to encourage air transport and tourism amid a two-month boycott imposed on the Gulf state by its neighbours.
