A number of star-gazing events are set to take place tonight on the occasion of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Here is some information about 5 of these:

1.The Friends of the Troodos Observatory will gather on Saturday at 20:30 for the planned event titled “With the Persians in Troodos”. The event will be held under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, and will be held in the Troodos Botanical Garden, in Asyndo.

2. The Fakas Tutorial School, in cooperation with the Astronomical Society of Cyprus (ASTREK), organizes an astronomical evening in the courtyard of the Church of Saint Arseniou in Kyperounta on Saturday from 21:00 to 23:30. The audience will have the opportunity to watch the rain of stars and solve their queries about celestial phenomena. At the event there will be many astronomical telescopes for observing not only the Persians but also the planets Zeus, Saturn, and various constellations.

3. The Kition Planetarium and Observatory is organizing an event in the framework of the annual “Awning Bridges 2017” project, selected as one of the world’s finest astronomy projects by the International Astronomical Union for the year 2017.

4. The “Persian Rain 2017 “ will also be enjoyed at Xylophagos Coast, Larnaca, taking photos from 20:30 to 23:00 on Saturday. “If we are lucky enough, we will be able to get a lot of shots in our photos,” says the relevant announcement for the event. 5. Finally, on the occasion of this special event, the Arsos Youth Center invites us to spend a special evening. In the closed space of the school, on Saturday night, there will be a Starlab mobile planetarium between 19.00-21.00, which will give the opportunity for both young and old to enjoy the starry sky and the planets through its dome. The following will be followed by an outdoor presentation of the Perseids phenomenon by the House of Science as well as a presentation of the differences between constellations through telescopes. And when star rain begins, you can lie down in the large courtyard of the school, which provides unobstructed views to enjoy the unique Persians phenomenon.
