A journey had begun in the narrow streets of Limassol Old Town. As we were exploring every little detail in the town, we came across a brilliant human being. He was an adorable old man. He introduced himself, Kyriakos, he offered us freshly squeezed orange juice and asked us to join him for a mini talk. The first thing he noticed was my photo camera which had been hanging round my neck and that tempted him to go inside and bring his own photographic material as fast as he could. He brought us an envelope which he named “Family envelope”. Hundreds of photos overflowed in front of us.
The photos portrayed the old man with several random people passing by, that were also attracted by that soulful figure. As we were enjoying our juice, we were asked to guess his age. Figuring this out confused us a bit but finally we estimated that he must be probably around ninety, but unfortunately we were wrong. He directly reacted with pride that he lives ninety seven years on earth.
“A problem appears? How do you handle it?”, he said.
“With a kick and a big smile…and the problem is gone!”
Listening to these simple but wise words from a man rang a bell! It fills you with much positive energy, enough to change you completely in the way you react and think during difficult moments of life. As we said goodbye to the smiling old man all of my senses felt stronger. The colors seemed more vibrant, the unique smells were drilling my nose and the chirping of sparrows was tickling the drums of my ears.
From now on, I realized that we all have to keep that level of peacefulness and happiness, no matter the difficulties and troubles that will come along the way.
Serenity, peace, joy, happiness and positive energy are the necessary supplies we need to ensure that the journey we were offered, will be as enjoyable as possible; the journey we call Life. And as Mr Kyriakos says, let us walk the journey, always by wearing a big smile!
