In Cyprus, just like in other countries, there are various fixed expressions, the so called Cypriot wisdom expressions, that derive from real life experiences and are widely used among locals. And you know what they say about these real-life phrases of the vernacular language: They all enclose so much truth inside them that you have to trust them, one way or another!
This is one of the most well-known expressions in Cyprus. It is used when people act as if they know everything and they are not humble. It is commonly used among friends on the island, as a way of teasing each other.
Another very famous expression in Cyprus! It is widely used for people who are not humble at all and who want to move forward no matter the way, the timing, the place. They just want to get to their ultimate goal, irrespective of any form of any respect or patience that might be needed in order to achieve their desire. It has quite a negative connotation and refers to a rather negative attribute of a person.
You will here many many parents or grand-parents uttering this phrase! It’s almost a must-say phrase for them when addressing their children (no matter their age). It refers to the general wisdom that the older people who are inevitably more experienced have.
How about you and your circle? Do you use these phrases?
